10 SHORT STORIES TELLING PEOPLE WHAT ANIMALS WANT YOU TO KNOW.
You have animals under your wing and every now and then they'll whip out these odd behaviours you can't get to the bottom of, they get sick and you have no clue what's wrong, they seem depressed and disinterested in life and you don't know how to help them and on and on the struggles of you not understanding the various predicaments your animals get into or what to do with them.
I know the thousands of clients I have seen over the years come to me because they need help understanding their animals better and they want to know how to help them. It is a huge responsibility to care for an animal and they need us to do our utmost to get it right.
* They need us to stop guessing.
* They need us to know the many solutions to the problems as they arise.
* And the humans need to stop feeling guilty when something goes awry - because it does and it will.
First we must be educated because EDUCATION IS KING when it comes to looking after them - we need to learn from the animals what they want from us and then we need to learn all the ways to look after them that you perhaps haven't heard previously.
EDUCATE | INSPIRE | ENTERTAIN
Animals Speak is a book of short stories based on some of the more common issues I see from my animal clients as well as my own experience as a life long (many times failed) animal parent. These stories are written mostly from the animals’ perspective, but also from that of the animal communicator (which is still the animal's perspective) and/or their person's point of view.
Come and meet Norman and August and Sawdust and all their accompanying friends as they share with you their stories of that itch you can't scratch, the anxiety that makes your innards quiver, the grief you experience when something unresolved happens, the teachings to a new cat Mum and much much more.
Additional to these short stories is a list of 33 Things Your Animals Need You to Know. A random collection of my thoughts and tips to regular questions and problems I have come across.
"Why 33?" you ask.
In short I didn’t know where to stop and every time I thought that was enough, I would think of something else I could include. I needed a stopping point however, so gave myself a limit of 33, which in itself may seem rather peculiar, but there is significance to this number for me and getting this book into the public arena - a number with many meanings, but two that stand out for me are Inspiration and Courage. You see I felt inspired for the first two weeks when I started this writing in October 2021 and then ran out of gogo juice. It wasn't until joining the Inspirational Books Writers' Book Writing Retreat and surrounding myself with inspiring people on the same journey did I get the kick I needed. And then I realised I was about to show myself to the world and to be honest, that took more courage than I thought I’d require. So 33 it is!
My intention in writing this book is to offer readers a perspective on our animals health and wellbeing from the animals themselves. There are plenty of books out there talking about animal care from a science base, but for me there is nothing like hearing the unique views of our animals from their own mouths. And since we, as humans are the greatest influence on their lives, I figure we all need to learn more to be able to do better.
